 Caring for Patients Comes First

Central Massachusetts Independent Physician Association (CMIPA) in Worcester is the area’s largest multi-specialty clinically integrated physician group not affiliated with a hospital. With over 200 member physicians, we care for half of the area’s patients. Formed in 1998, our mission is to advance the independent practice of medicine, and we believe that more choices for physicians and patients lead to better care. Our physicians, with privileges at UMass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital, are dedicated to the delivery of personalized, high-quality, cost-effective care.

In December 2008, Sanofi-Aventis awarded CMIPA funding for a sponsorship of work for a project to Ensure Adherence to Diabetic Guidelines and Quality Measures. This funding provides on-site Certified Diabetic Educators in the PCP practices. This integration of team members assists with the communication, collaboration and continuity of patient care.

CMIPA Named to 2008 “Physician Group Honor Roll”

To warrant this status, CMIPA exceeded the national 90th percentile published by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in 8 out of 10 preventive and chronic care measures for adult honors  and 4 out of 5 preventive and chronic care measures for pediatric honors.

  Investing in Technology

We are committed to helping our members implement computerized medical systems that improve patient safety in their practices. To realize this, we are providing grants for our members and arranging for automated systems to be installed at no cost, such as our new data warehouse system, a web-based scheduling center, and comprehensive online patient education.

Achieving Accolades for Quality

CMIPA is consistently recognized for our high-quality care.  In 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 we received the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Quality Honor Award, and in 2005 we received the Tufts Health Plan Blue Ribbon designation for "value care". Our member physicians have been recognized in 2005, 2006 and 2007 by Massachusetts Health Quality Partners for exceeding the Central Massachusetts rates for their performance in the areas of depression, asthma management in children, well-child visits, comprehensive diabetes care, and breast cancer screening.  In addition, in 2007 they were also recognized for exceeding the Central Massachusetts rates in the areas of adult bronchitis, cardiovascular care, and management of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.    Read more about CMIPA achievements.
